1978 2L Westfalia Berlin California Import LHD

Our Westy, Olive, has been a part of our family since she was imported from California in 2007. When the kids were small all 6 of us could sleep inside, but with the kids growing up she’s not able to cope with us all now, and she needs a new family for new adventures.

The last Bay Window model year, before VW brought out the T25. She’s all US Spec, a 2 litre engine with injection which will cruise on the motorway at 70 and has been reliable enough to take us around Europe, including Spain, France, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the Outer Hebrides and Orkney.

A Westfalia Berlin spec, so a full width double bed in the roof, a rock n roll bed in the back, and a hammock across the front seats. Front seats have been re-upholstered, but otherwise she’s as the original Westfalia engineers left her. Curtains all around (and original), and as she was sent to California she has the full mosquito netting included. Swivel passenger front seat and table in front of the rear seats (which is removable).

She has been looked after since we had her by Dave at Kingfisher Kustoms (http://www.kingfisherkustoms.co.uk) in Oldbury, a classic VW professional and we have the full service history during that time.

Olive is getting on for 39 years old now, and so she isn’t perfect, but i think she’s a beautiful old girl who will look after her new family. We’ve only used her for 6 months of the year since we’ve had her, and she’s only been used at weekends or for holidays, and when not in use she has been kept indoors. So she doesn’t have a rust problem, she shows some rust around the windscreens front and back but it’s minor (see photo’s). the interior cupboards are all original, and show some signs of age with some of the wood paneling flaking. we replaced the wheels and tyres last year, but the hubcaps still require lacquering to return them to their former glory. as she hasn’t been used in the winter, i’ve never sorted out the heater so i’m not sure what the problem is, the sink pump and water unit has been removed (no fun with small kids in a confined space) but could easily be replaced if required. On the rear passenger side panel the paint work is not its best, i suspect she sustained a little damage in the US, but maybe not the greatest paint job when repairing.

i’m not looking forward to having to say goodbye, so please don’t approach me with silly offers. i recommend anybody serious to come and see her in all her glory for yourself, have a drive and i’m sure you’ll fall head over heals.

thanks for looking, i’m also advertising elsewhere so i reserve the right to withdraw if i sell through one of those other channels…
